Amina Lawal & Hester Prynne Essay
Thesis Statement: There are more emotionally and physically painful ways Amina could be punished rather than being stoned like Hester Prynne was not hung in the Scarlet Letter, but was punished in a different way.
Amina Lawal should be sentenced for life in jail and hard labor while in jail instead of being brutally killed. In The Scarlet Letter Hester was punished by wearing the letter "A" on her chest for life. This showed everyone she was an adulteress. This blackened her name in the town. It would be more effective for her to suffer for a life time rather than suffering for 20 minutes. Her kid should also be taken away from her because she was the product of this sin, and letting Amina keep the kid gives her something positive out of this whole ordeal. In The Scarlet Letter they did not take Pearl away and Hester and Pearl created a strong bond which kept Hester going stong.
If the Nigerian Government wants to punish Amina then they should put her in jail for life, make her do lots of hard work, and also take away her child. Doing so would inflict a lot more pain emotionally and physically than stoning her.
